The Joan and David Magdanz Global Fund

We are thrilled to announce the establishment of the Joann and David Magdanz Global Missions Fund. Joann and David are longstanding membersof Chapelwood and fervent supporters of Chapelwood’s global missions. They have dedicated themselves to participating in numerous impactful mission trips to Guatemala, Sage Brown, and Tepachula, Mexico. On one of their recentmission trips to Guatemala, they helped provide clean water to impoverished communities. David's involvement in the Foundation’s Global Giving Committee demonstrates their unwavering commitment to global initiatives. According to Joann and David, “we have been blessed by participating in the work and experiencing the fellowship and love shared during a mission, and weestablished this fund to help ensure these programs continue for the benefit ofthose needing help and for future Chapelwood participants.” The Chapelwood Foundation extends its heartfelt appreciation for Joann and David’s faithful service in advancing the Foundation's worldwide mission.

The Heinrich Scholarship Fund

Tammy and Tim Heinrich are passionate about supporting the Chapelwood Foundation's work. Following their attendance at last year's Foundation Dinner, Tammy proposed to Tim the idea of establishing a "legacy" gift. Without hesitation, Tim responded, "Why wait until we're gone? Let's give now." Both share a strong belief in the power of education and have personally experienced the impact of financial support during their college years. As a result, they have chosen to create a scholarship in their family's name as a way of giving back. They feel deeply grateful for God's blessings and are committed to sharing that same spirit of generosity with others.

The Don and Dottie Bates Fund

As part of their estate plans, Don and Dottie Bates each left gifts to the Chapelwood Foundation, which the Foundation used to establish the "Don and Dottie Bates Fund." Both Don and Dottie were actively involved in supporting their community during their many years at Chapelwood. Don volunteered with Collegiate Challenge, mentoring high school students in the Spring Branch community along their path toward college. Dottie was involved in numerous community organizations, such as Childbuilders, where the focus was child abuse prevention; their passion and interest in the education and the support of children in our community was clear, so the ability to pass on a financial gift to the foundation to continue their legacy was a natural fit. According to their son Jon, “Our family appreciates Chapelwood having this vehicle in place to make a solid impact in the education of children in our local community.”

The Huddleston Scholarship Fund

Lisa and Peter Currie were moved by the selflessness and devotion of Lisa's sister, Kathy, who devoted her time to volunteering and tutoring students at Memorial High School. As a Chapelwood VBS and confirmation leader during the summer, Kathy cherished the opportunity to give back to the students in her community. Her family was deeply touched by her passion for education and commitment to serving others, and they decided to honor her memory by creating The Huddleston Scholarship Fund. They hope that the fund will inspire and empower scholarship students to pursue their dreams of achieving a college education, just as Kathy had envisioned.

The Richard Worthen Fair Haven Scholarship Fund

Nathaniel Degges has generously donated funds to establish a scholarship in honor of his late father. This initiative provides an opportunity for other Fair Haven members to support students who are pursuing higher education. Nat's intention was to honor his father's memory and inspire others to do the same. Thanks to Nat's initiative, his contribution not only celebrates his father's legacy, but also provides a valuable opportunity for students to pursue their dreams of higher education.

The Ron and Sandra Yates Global Mission Fund

We are excited to announce our first Global Missions Fund, The Ron and Sandra Yates Global Mission Fund! Ron and Sandra Yates have been members of Chapelwood UMC since 1998. In 2005, they went on a Chapelwood mission trip to Kenya which, according to Ron, “was a life-changing experience for us.” On returning, Ron was elected to the Foundation board and has since served on the Foundation's Global and Investment Committees. Ron and Sandra joined the Legacy Circle with a desire to make an estate gift to the Foundation, but recently, they have decided to begin the gift while they are still living so they can see the results of the gift up close and personal. Ron and Sandra feel “there are undoubtedly many worthy causes that the Foundation supports, but global missions have a special significance to us. And let us remember, the Great Commission from the gospel of Matthew is 'Gounto all Nations...’" We appreciate their faithful commitment and service tocontinue the Foundation's mission worldwide.
